Which are the best clinics for diabetes in Germany? 23 excellent clinics with high treatment quality are listed here.

“Age is the strongest risk factor for type 2 diabetes”, says Prof. Dr. Fritsche from Tübingen University Hospital. He has been studying the disease pattern and its therapy for a long time. “Diabetes is much more complex than the nutritional disease it is often thought to be,” says Fritsche. That’s why it’s important for doctors to be up to date with the latest scientific findings and know current therapeutic approaches.

People with diabetes can be treated at around 1,500 hospitals in Germany. However, doctors do not have a high level of expertise in all clinics. Hospitals on the following list can be recommended without hesitation, because they have an above-average number of patients, because they are certified as diabetes clinics, and because they meet other quality criteria. Detailed information on how the list was created can be found at the end of the article.

This is how the clinic list was created:

  • Many patients! At the clinics presented above, doctors have great experience with Diabetes Type 2 (ICD E11), because only hospitals that treat diabetes on an above-average basis have been taken into consideration. Hospitals are obliged to inform about their medical treatment in quality reports and to provide this information to the Federal Joint Committee.
  • Certifications! When a clinic receives a certificate, this means that there are doctors who specialized in the treatment of diabetes and that the necessary equipment for treatment is available. All the clinics in the list have been certified as Diabetes Centers for Diabetes Type 2 by the German Diabetes Society (DDG).
  • High Level of Patient Satisfaction! The level of patient satisfaction of the clinics in the list is at least at 90 percent. This is the result of a survey by the German health insurance companies AOK and BARMER in cooperation with the “Weisse Liste”. Every year, almost half a million of insured people are being questioned about their hospital stay.
  • Good Hygiene! Many patients suffer from an infection during their hospital stay, which is why good hospital hygiene is important. All the clinics attach above-average value to patient safety. At least 45 out of 55 measures have been taken in order to guarantee optimal hygiene before, during and after surgery.

This is just a small selection of German clinics. Of course, many other hospitals also offer a high quality of treatment.
