Which clinics in Germany are most suitable for thyroid surgery? 18 hospitals with high quality of treatment are listed here.

Thyroid surgery is necessary in the case of a suspected malign disease of the thyroid, but can also be recommended for a benign disease. Reasons fo surgery can be for example cancer, enlargement of the thyroid or a cyst. There are also other treatment possibilites for thyroid diseases such as drug therapy or radioiodine therapy. However, surgery is the only treatment possibility which immediately leads to the desired effect.

For successful treatment, the choice of the hospital is important, because not all hospitals in Germany are specialized in thyroid surgery. Besides good hygiene and high treatment quality, the doctors in the listed hospitals have great experience in thyroid surgery.

This is how the clinic list was created

  • Many patients! At the clinics presented above, doctors have great experience with thyroid surgery, because only hospitals that operate on the thyroid (OPS 6-069) on an above-average basis have been taken into consideration. Hospitals are obliged to inform about their medical treatment in quality reports and to provide this information to the Federal Joint Committee.
  • Certifications! When a clinic receives a certificate, this means that there are specialized doctors in the clinic and that the necessary equipment for treatment is available. All the clinics in the list have been listed as centers for thyroid and parathyroid surgery by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV). The DGAV is the most important specialist society for visceral surgery in Germany.
  • Good Hygiene! Many patients suffer from an infection during their hospital stay, which is why good hospital hygiene is important. All the clinics attach above-average value to patient safety. At least 45 out of 55 measures have been taken in order to guarantee optimal hygiene before, during and after surgery.
  • High Level of Patient Satisfaction! The level of patient satisfaction of the clinics in the list is at least at 90 percent. This is the result of a survey by the German health insurance companies AOK and BARMER in cooperation with the “Weisse Liste”. Every year, almost half a million of insured people are being questioned about their hospital stay. This is the biggest patient survey in Europe.

This is just a small selection of German clinics. Of course, many other hospitals also offer a high quality of treatment.
